In order to replace a faulty piece of equipment affecting access to its metadata servers, Oak will be unavailable on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM PDT.

During this time, you will be unable to access Oak, either directly, or through Sherlock. Access to Oak should automatically resume after the maintenance.

To anticipate this upcoming downtime, and to minimize work interruption on Sherlock, we’ve added a partial reservation in the scheduler, that will only hold jobs that use Oak. Sherlock will stay up during Oak’s maintenance period, and any activity that doesn’t involve Oak could still be carried on normally.
Interactive access to Oak will obviously not be possible, from any Sherlock node (login or compute), during its maintenance.

If you have references to Oak in your ~/.bashrc or your environment, you may have difficulties logging in to Sherlock during Oak’s downtime. And if you have jobs in queue that reference Oak in any way, they’ll be delayed (with a pending reason of Licenses) until after the Oak downtime.
